Double Page Spread Analysis

From this I have learnt that placing a big image on the double page article really grabs the readers attention and would make them want to carry on reading the article. The house style is crucial and I need to ensure I use bold colours which really stand out against a dull background.

From this I can see that the image used is the main focus of the magazine article. The text used is very eye catching and it really stands out as the fonts used are very bold. The fact that the text is on the left is a good idea as you read from left to right and it makes the text the main feature of the article rather than the image used. The headline covers most of the page so people instanly know what the article is about. The article isn't too text heavy, this is a good idea as people may get put off when they see a whole article full of pages of text, therefore i will use this idea in my magazine.

Contents Page Analysis

From this I have leant that sticking to 3 house style colour is really affective and stands out the most. I have also learnt that placing the article names on the left and then placing images on the right is the best type of layout for the structure of the contents page and this is something I will strongly consider doing in my rock magazine.

From this I have learnt that the house colour red, black and white are very popular and something that i would strongly consider using. The layout of these two contents pages are very eye catching and they look the most professional, having the text on the left and images on the right.

Rock Magazine Analysis

From this process I have learnt that positioning is key, the way people are positioned gives off different impressions completely. The fact that there is a man in the middle, who is higher than the other two, suggest that he has more control over the band, this may be the wrong interpretation, however this is why you have to be selective with the positioning you chose. Also i have decided that i dislike that the logo is behing the image, as I think you loose focus on the magazine name itself and concerntrate too much on the image, where as I want my magazine to be remembered not just for it's image.
From this I have learnt that gory images and dark colours are used in rock magazines. Also that fonts are either capitalised or in bold to grab the readers attention. Cover lines are often used with images to support them and this is something I will use on my magazine front cover.

I have decided to do a rock magazine as I think I could be really creative with the image, I could use vibrant makeup and big hair, and the clothing used would be leather as this fits in with the stereotypical rocker image. Below I analysed an existing rock magazine, from this process I have learnt that the fonts I use need to be bold and eye catching, and the colours used need to be dark. The magazine used gory images and a lot of blood, therefore this is something to think about for my magazine.

Draft Of Pitch

This is a draft of my pitch, none of my ideas are final I have just started planning what I would like to include in the rock music magazine.

Rock Hairystyles and Makeup

Here I have looked at various rock hairstyles so I can get an idea of how my model is going to have their hair. From the images I can see that most of the models have a dark colour hair type and that their hair is backcombed and very big and vibrant. From this research I have learnt that I need to give my model big bold hair, so it fits in with the rock genre.

From this I can see that most rock models have black dark makeup on, and I have realised that on my magazine front cover the model should be wearing dark heavy eye liner around their eyes, along with dark eyeshadow. The models also have pale skin, therefore my model will have to make sure they use alot of light foundation to get a lighter skin shade.

Rock Music Research

These were the questions that I asked 50 people, I carried out this research so I knew what people liked and what i should include in my magazine, and what I should avoid including. I found that females were the most popular gender to include on the front page.

This is the results from the colour scheme question. I found out that the most popular colours to use were of a range from black, white, grey and red, this is something I will use in my magazine.
Overall, from the people that I asked I found that rock was the most popular music style to read, this suited me because I wanted to create a magazine for the rock industry and obviously it is very popular.
I wanted to get an idea of how much people were willing to pay for this magazine and overall I found out that pricing the rock magazine at £2.01-2.50 was the most popular price, therefore this is what the magazine will be priced at, within this pricing range.

House Music Magazine Analysis

From this I have learnt that different music genres use specific fonts to target their audience. This music magazine had a free CD with it with would appeal to house music fans, the front cover also had Tiga on, he is a house music icon therefore people would be more influenced to buy this magazine over any others. The colours used are bright and fit in with the house music theme.

Music Magazine Research: Pop Group

I researched a famous Pop Group called Girls Aloud, and i looked at thier career, i also looked at how them as a band changed over time to make sure they appealled to various audiences. I looked at their various album covers, the text and font used, and the way the girls in the band are positioned in every album cover, to get an idea of what i want to do in my Music Magazine.

Completed Preliminary Task

This is the completed Front Page. I cropped the image and then added a black box over the bottom of the picture. I then filled it in black and used the blending tool to make it blend with the top half of the image. I also added a small box at the bottom to make it look more detailed and less boring. From this process i have learnt that I need to make sure I follow instructions carefully, but if I do the wrong shot I can always use Photoshop to crop it, or zoom in or out.
This is the final contents page, I had to change some of the images that were on the contents page because they consisted of year 11 students, therefore as I was advertising a sixth form it was unlikely that the whole prospectus would be about the lower years of the school.

First Draft Contents Page

Although this was a good attempt I ahve used irrelevant images, which i wont use in my final page. I have used images of Year 11's and my task was to advertise the Sixth form not the rest of the school. Therefore i need to take more images that only consist of sixth formers.

First Attempt At Front Page

This was my first attempt, but as you can see it isn't a medium shot that i used, therefore i had to edit my image and crop it on Photoshop and edit it so it was a medium close up.

Process of the Preliminary Task

Prelimary Research

Here i have created a collage of the reasearch using the website called www.fortor.com i found google, about the different school prospectus. I also have created a mindmap which shows my planning, and this link is above. I have decided to get various images for my contents page and for my front cover. From this process i have learnt that my school prospectus needs to be as professional as possible, yet not too complex.

Nature Magazine

The task we had to carry out was creating a Nature Magazine. The main reason why I chose to use this image was because it was very bright and it really stood out, it also focused on the leaves, which highlights the factthat its a nature magazine. I then uploaded the image we took onto photoshop and played around with it, i edited it to make it brighter, and i had to make sure the image wasn't too blury when i changed the image's size. I then tried different fonts and colours and decided the white looked best against the colour of the leaves, as it stood out more. This gave me an idea how to get used to photoshop and how im going to plan my preliminary task. I found it challenging when i had to rescale the image and change its size, also it was difficult making sure when the image was englared that the resolution wasn't blurred. Finally, next time i will work on being more creative and ambitious.

School Prospectus

I was asked to design a plan of the Preliminary task, which was to design a school prospectus. I focused on drawing the front page and the contents page. I've decided to include the school logo and i have created my own mission statement. I have also decided to use a medium close up shot of the front page of a student, and towards the left hand side i will have small images of the different things that will be in the school magazine. On the contents page i have decided to include a review below the bottom, and images down the side, to make it look very catchy, colorful and appealing.
